We are staying in the old part of Chiang Mai, an old walled in city, in a hotel room. It has a lot of temples, and I like it. But this one morning, I was very excited when I woke up , because we were going to Tiger Kingdom! Tiger Kingdom is a place where you go in the tiger’s cage, and take pictures and pet them. We got ready for the day and went outside our hotel to get a tuk- tuk, ( A tuk-tuk is a little red motorbike, but with a covering over it and a bench in the back.) And it took us to Tiger kingdom. The drive there was very cool, and I saw some chickens in an upside down woven basket. It felt very classic Thailand, because we also passed some markets, and there were houses on stilts.
When we arrived at tiger kingdom we had to figure out what cages we wanted to go into. We got to go in each cage for ten minutes and for some reason they insisted that Xander and I went in together, which was a bit disappointing because I had hoped I would get to have some alone time with the tiger. They also wouldn’t let us do the big tiger or the giant tiger ( I suspect it had to do with the staff thinking the tigers would eat us..) So Xander and I chose a package deal where we got to see the medium tiger and the small white tiger.
We went into the medium tiger’s cage first, which wasn’t really a cage, more like an enclosure with trees, a small concrete pool, and some shrubs. I let Xander pet the tiger for about three minutes while I watched. We had hired a photographer for this cage, so I didn’t have to take pictures of him. The tigers seemed a bit bored and sleepy, and I was so excited to pet them I didn’t feel unsafe. I pet the tiger, and it’s fur was a bit rough. It was cute and it seemed so sleepy I just wanted to squeeze it. We saw the tiger do tricks in the water, because a man was rattling a box with something in it over the water. We also posed with it on a table.
Soon enough our time was up, and we said goodbye to the medium tigers. We went into the cage with the small white tigers, and they were so cute! They were like bigger cats, and one of them was lying in the sun and I got to pet its fur and lie on it. In this one we had to take pictures of each other, but Xander got some really good photos. It was pretty much the same as the medium cage, just with different tigers. The tigers were so cute, and to remember our time there, Xander and I each got little tiger plushies, he got a normal tiger and I got a white one. Our tuk tuk driver had been waiting for us, and we got home quickly, with Xander and I squeezing our plushies tightly.
